Chemin des Cretes

Or Chemin des Cretins? Birgit and I walked to the place we were meeting Katie and Amy for 1pm and then they told us they were running 45 mins late. Instead of going home (what's the point?!) we went to the beach....!

So we started the famous Ajaccien route at about 2pm - pretty bad idea! It was a beautiful day but so so hot (sorry to rub it in!) so we couldn't complete the walk, and came down early -also we would miss the bus back from the cemetery.

But it was totally lovely - the views over Ajaccio are fantastic. Anyone who comes out to visit, be warned, you will be taken up there! (bring good trainers or better, walking boots)

We also saw lots of cacti - it sometimes feels like we're in Mexico or the desert here - an I took a photo of a prickly pear. Mum brought one back from Malta for us to try since they're edible, but they're not so tasty... however, if you feel like a cretinous walk, they are free!!! (the cheapest thing in Corsica...)

The foursome: Amy, Birgit, Katie and my very own self:
(and no, we're not looking 'cause someone somewhere has a better photo!)

school

Alors, salut Octobre.
The sun is still shining and it is still very warm (until about 7pm when it becomes very cold). This place is amazing. With that and Sarkozy's promise that no one will lose a centime in the credit crunch I may transfer all my savings and stay here!

School started on Monday.I teach 14 classes, which works out to just over 12 hours. Mostly the children are fantastic - tres sage. Some are total chatterboxes and I get to frappe les sur les tetes if they misbehave. It's great. One of my schools is very advantaged and the kids don't understand "no" - I don't think they've ever heard their parents saying it to them. Another school I swear the children don't have bums - they find it very difficult to sit down!! the other 2 are great though and I have some 9-11 year olds who are so eager to learn - I introduced subordinate clauses to them! I love it :)

Plus I only work 3 days a week...can't really complain about that...
